An entry-level automotive technician needs to have the skills to perform visual inspections, perform routine maintenance and light repairs and the ability to perform simple diagnostic procedures. Above all, you should be able to display good mechanical aptitude, but you also need strong computer literacy and the ability to work on a variety of makes and models of vehicles. In addition to your automotive knowledge, you should be competent with a variety of tools, including diagnostic equipment as well as standard hand tools.
